CBD HELPS IN CANCER TREATMENT

CHEMO DOSES COULD BE LOWERED THROUGH CBD USAGE

In a recent blog entry, Helen Wilson wrote about the usage of CBD to aid in chemotherapy for cancer treatment. I will use some of that blog for today’s post.

A NEW USE FOR CBD IN TREATING CANCER PATIENTS

The usage of CBD as an adjunct to chemotherapy was developed by a team of researchers in Israel. A team, lead by Professor Alexander Binshtok, and made up of researchers from Hebrew University and Germany’s Hannover Medical School, created a method that delivers the chemo drugs directly to the malignant cells, bypassing the healthy ones in the body.

This new method could enable doctors to lower the doses of chemo for cancer patients, improving the overall prognoses and treatment compliance, and it would also decrease the side effects associated with chemotherapy.

CHEMO ATTACKS HEALTHY CELLS AS WELL AS CANCER CELL

Talking about the method, Professor Binshtok said that a majority of anti-cancer treatments aren’t adequately specific as they tend to attack even the healthy cells while they are attacking the malignant cells in the patient’s body. As a result, chemotherapy leads to multiple side effects of serious nature.

Explaining further, Professor Binshtok stated that targeting and eliminating only the affected cancerous cells and leaving the healthy cells alone in the procedure is a critical step to diminish the suffering of the patients.

CBD HELPS TARGET THE REDUCED DOSE OF THE CHEMO DRUGS

The team utilized CBD and one more agent for activating TRPV2 protein so that a canal inside liver cancer cell membranes could be opened. Then the team inserted a reduced dose of doxorubicin, a chemo drug, through this canal and into the cancer cells directly.

This is just one more reason to spend more money and time on research using CBD.
